i describe his style to be a little bland. i think this, because there is no real pop effect. he uses a lot of soft lighting. the poses are repetitive, and there is no true mood.

I think that his style is very interesting!! It's kind of quirky, and I love that! His lighting is kind of soft, and the greyscale makes it seem really raw. The mood I can't quite put my finger on! It seems sort of silly, but also kind of serious. I don't know. But I like it.

His style is very unique. It's very weird but interesting at the same time. The lighting is perfect and right on the object. The poses are really really weird and not normal. The mood is serious and on point.

The lighting in most of the pictures compliment the classic B&W style of the photos. Also, the poses in the photographs can be abnormal, and as well as relaxed. As for the mood, the mood of the photos seem to be eerie, yet at the same time dramatic.

It's just his creativity and its unique. He can say he does his won work and it shows that he can call it his own work and not someone else. Being that he does that kind of stuff its funny because you dont see that everyday.

He uses soft lighting in his photographs. The mood is gloomy and morose because it's all in black and white and none of the models are smiling. The poses are elegant, but not very unique. Most pictures don't even have the person's full body in them.

I don't like the mood in my opinion but the lighting is pretty good. It seems sorta boring and the poses are weird. I would describe it as an older type of art and I thought it was boring.

His style is a different one he just captures the picture how it is. The lighting of the pictures is really good the way he captured the pictures make the lighting great. The pose that the photographer make them do is a good strong natural form. The mood of the pictures are happy/sad moods.

Well his style is one of a kind.. I like what he's trying to do but at the same time it's hard to not be grossed out by the naked people. His lighting was very delicate and I feel like he did a good job. The poses are the best part in my opinion because he chooses different positions that bring a different side to the photo itself. The mood isn't depressing or dark, it actually had a light feeling to it and a sense of seriousness.

M.Christensen p.1

This style is kinda old school and not really like other photos when women are naked because these ones dont have perfect bodies like nowadays. The lighting is kinda dark and not really spot lighting anything, the poses are almost uncomfortable, and not really a everyday pose. and the mood is awkward.

I think he uses a lot of soft lighting. A lot of the poses are the same. The mood seems to be very serious to me. -A. Haunschild Per. 1

I would describe his style as odd I guess, it's like his mood is almost depressing or something. The lighting would be like based on what their pose was. Everything is in black and white so I guess the lighting wouldn't matter as much.

i would describe his style as very unique and a little weird. He sets the MOOD by being on point and serious, LIGHTING by having it direct and on a focal point, the POSE was interesting and the best part of the photos because it was different then what most people use for their photographs

Anonymous said...

Most of the lighting in these pictures is dark and like in black and white. The mood in these pictures is really different, but in a cool way. The poses are also different. You wouldn't see lots of people doing those types of poses.

The lighting in his work is mostly black and white. This makes the mood feel old and have no emotions. Pretty much all of the poses are sitting or standing and are kinda boring and plain.

His style has a classic mood due to the fact that his pictures are from the 40's. The lighting in his studio photos set a serious mood that complements the poses of the models. I like his style because it's very classic and timeless.

I would describe Irving Penn's work very mature . The lighting for the pictures was controlled very well. The pictures didn't seem like they required a pose except for some nude ones and some close-ups, the rest looked like free posing. The mood for these pictures seems sad yet reminds us what it means to be human, so sad in a good way.

J.Rosales P.1

Irving Penn's lighting is very spotlighty, all of the lighting seems to be coming from overhead. The poses, if there are models, are very dramatic, everyone looks like they're just going through normal life. The mood is dramatic as well, no one seems to be paying attention to the camera.

The LIGHTING in Penn's work is very dim. In my opinion this could create a romantic or old-time MOOD. His models are very POSED. I can't decide whether or not I like his work. Some of it is awesome, like the header photo you posted, but some of his stuff is too weird for my taste.
