Fake Hurricane Sandy Pics

This is what we face.

A future where, within hours of ANY major news event, people with PhotoShop FLOOD the internet with faked photos of said event.

Can we believe our eyes anymore?

How do we know that the latest picture someone posted on FaceBook is what actually happened?
CHECK this link OUT!!!

Are any of these BELIEVABLE or CONVINCING?

Can you see any problems with people taking this type of action?

Can you see any BENEFIT resulting from people doing this???

Some of these pictures are convincing. Most of them aren't though. The statue of liberty looks real and the cat and the snowman one looks fake. There's not really any benefit to doing this...

I guess some are but not all of them. The problem would be people would think those pictures are real and probably get scared. I don't think there's a benefit unless it's like a assignment but it should not be led out to the public.

The second picture, of the hurricane over the Statue of Liberty, is the most believable one on that page. It makes things seem a lot scarier, people will panic and overreact for something that isn't as bad as it seems. The only benefit is people will take better precautions and be more prepared for a bad storm.

The picture from "The Day After Tomorrow" is the most believable image I saw there. The problem with taking that type of action, is that it doesn't allow people to be creative, or allow them to think about whether or not the image happens. The benefit I see, is that it prevents people from having a misunderstanding about the image.

I thought there was a few pictures that were believable. I don't see any problem with people taking this kind of action. I don't think this is a benefit because I don't see a point to this.

Some are believable. There are tons of problems with people doing this- i mean, yeah it's cool to know that something you did was so well done that people actually thought that your picture was showing off a real occurrence, but seriously. There are too many paranoid people. Too many ignorant people, even, for this to be beneficial at all.

Well the storm in New York, and the wave hitting the statue of liberty seems pretty real to me. And when people take this type of action can trick people into thinking its real and could scare people.
Before I took this class I believed a lot of photos and would ask myself if it wasn't how would they do that, but now I know and I don't know what pictures to believe. Then with this you can get a benefit from, yeah I have no idea.

The first couple looked like they could actually be real and then they started to add in cats and random weird things. But the real ones could be used cause they look so real. I don't see a benefit of it.

There's a lot i think that are real but i know there fake like the one of the city with water going through it. Or the Statue of Liberty with the dark cloud around it i would think it was real because it was intense. So many photos on this could be real because some of them got me.

yes a few of these are very convincing and believable. yes i can see problems in this type of action, and no I do not see any good resulting from people doing this.

it is hard to believe photos, because you can photo-shop almost anything. Some photos we see are actually convincing. the huge problem with this epidemic is creating fake history in a sense, because in the future how will they know if the photo was real or not? they might not , and then they might think that it actually happened. there isn't any benefits i can really see right now.

We really cant believe our eyes anymore because people are getting so good at making these photoshopped pictures look as real as they can be. Well the photo experts can point of the fake ones, and the real ones. I don't see a problem with it because I think its funny that some people believe them. The benefit is making people look like complete idiots.

i think pictures like this can really confuse some people. i saw one of those on Facebook or something and i totally believed it. i think its kinda scary that peoples minds can be tricked so easily.

Yes, some of these pictures could be taken as real. It is scary that we cant even believe what is being shown to us. Doing this could be good for Halloween or something when your trying to scare someone, or if your trying to create a story but not for real life things.

None of these photos look real. The problem that these photos bring is that they could make the whole situation look worse than it actually is. The only benefit I see would be to raise awareness.

The most convincing photo in this series is of all the buildings with water going between them. People can really scare others with fake photos. Also it could help send aid to people in need.

The live cam the day after tomorrow looks pretty real. Yes and no. Probably panics people or scares them. And some are convincing because are logic makes us think so

I think that the one posted in this blog was actually pretty convincing, but none of the other photos were convincing to me. When people take this kind of action with natural disasters it can create fear in people that might believe the photograph. Honestly, i don't see much of a benefit from people doing this with photos except to maybe get a laugh from someone.

The day after tomorrow picture is the best convincing one. The problem with doing this is it could send people into a panic and could make them try to leave and get out of there as quick as they can. People could be benefiting from this by taking stuff that is given to them to help out they flooded area.
A.Deeds P.1

The big wave going through the town is kind of convincing, but I don't think any of them are really believable. People taking this type of action would have to be really close to dangerous situations and it would hard to be there for a lot of them or be so close. From people doing this, if the picture is real, then we can actually see what the storm was like or the damage it's leaving.

I think some of these photos could be believable! The problem with people taking these types of pictures is that they could really freak people out. Like people with family members that live in New York! People posting fake pictures like that should really find something better to do...

I don't really see a problem with taking pictures like these. Most are just ment to be funny and not take it too seriously. People just can't take a joke and get way to offended, even if the photo is obviously fake.

There are many problems with this kind of photoshopping because it can send people into a panic. Everyday it gets harder to believe our eyes because better and better graphics or electronics are made. Some of these are pretty good and look real, but most of them look really fake. Nikole kruger prd 2

I think none of them are convincing. Some problems are when people put things like cats in the pictures. That is ridiculous, no one will ever believe them. one benefit would be that if people actually do believe it, then they will probably try their best to help out who ever is being affected with the hurricane.
G. Williams P.2

The only picture that is convincing is the statue of liberty one with the hurricane above, when I first saw it a few days before this project I thought it was real. A problem with those photos is some people may think there is an actual issue. A benefit of the others is people may open up their eyes better to serious issues.
D.Jansen P.2

A couple are convincing, but everything else you can tell is fake. People could really scare others by posting this. And could get in trouble for false imaging. I don't see any benefits from posting these.
K.Morello P.2

Not a lot of them are convincing considering the lighting changes and other items in the pictures. Someone who had a ton of time on their hands would probably be able to make a convincing one. The only good thing to come out of this is hope some people overreact and actually prepare for the storm.

Some are pretty close to being convincing but the ones that are the most are the ones from movies scenes but yes some actually are pretty convincing. the problem with people photo shopping some things in this disaster during the storm and people are going through it is that they might see photos that are more worse than what is actually happening so the residence going through the storm would start to panic. A benefit could be that the pictures are sharing a new perspective of the storm.

The only problems with people editing pics of natural disasters is that some of them are very convincing and can make stuff look/ seem worse then they really are. Another downside is that people who want to publish actual pics of the disaster can't sort out whats fake and whats real. The only benefit i see from these is comedy from the clearly fake n fun edited pics.
